Across the fields of cutting green and sun-drenched gold, beyond the dense and dark trees, intertwined with twisting rivers and broad strokes of nature, a creative force emerges from the isolation of rural France. Creatively born near Grenoble in the summer of 2026, VENDANGES emerged as the vessel of French multi-instrumentalist Espoir. The project’s brilliant self-titled demo arrived in August of 2026 – three tracks at roughly eleven minutes of material. A captivating journey through memory, youth, and explosive energetic composing, merging gritty black metal with folk instrumentation and dungeon synth leanings, creative mastermind Espoir had announced his presence with trumpeting rancor.
September 20th marks the arrival of VENDANGES’ debut full-length, “La Danse du Souvenir,” six tales spanning nearly 35 minutes, an extension of the sound achieved on the self-titled demo and cornerstone of a trilogy focusing on the artist’s upbringing and youth amongst the fields of Burgundy.
VENDANGES is not some simple proclamation of hate, slapped together, and deliberately made into a mess for credibility points. The meaning is far deeper, far more enriched. The project serves as a testament to the memories of one’s youth, the process of giving musical and lyrical form to one’s memories and feelings – a project that resonates personally with the creator. The folk instrumentation carries the listener back into the deep past, while swathes of dungeon synth engage the imagination, and dynamic black metal rips the songs forward in terminal madness.
A musician since childhood, Espoir crafts complicated tapestries of deep-thinking clean arrangements with bombastic black metal assault, coupled with dynamic production that pronounces each frequency but contains enough grit and dirt to the keep the material wildly intense. This is not another dead tree of three or four chord black metal with a basic blastbeat behind it; these are intricately crafted ideas combining a myriad of musical influences, delivered by a trained musician whose out to deliver an experience, not a generic collection of songs.
With influences ranging from MARDUK and PESTE NOIRE to SALE FREUX and AMESOEURS, drawing inspiration from select films and a passion for photography and videography, the singular creative mindset represents the true organic purity of the solo artist. At the age of 18, Espoir has carved a creative road that is uniquely his; a distinct tone and meter, a sense of personalness not easily replicated.
To walk through the open fields, through the quiet woods, to gaze upon untouched landscapes is the beating heart of VENDANGES – moments of solitude, attachment to the land and old village life become bursting expressions of rural black metal.
